This workshop is for a person new to the Temporary Traffic Management (TTM) industry. The training provides information about common tasks such as installing signs and cones, operating the stop/go paddle and safety responsibilities. The TTM Worker works under the direction of an STMS.

The TTM Worker is registered as a Unit Standard:

TTM Worker is completed in two parts:

  • Part A: Briefing Session – Knowledge of TTM Worker, role and responsibility
  • Part B: Practical Work – Skills in performing the TTM Worker role

Both the theory and practical elements of the assessment are provided during a one-day workshop. The theory questions are completed during the morning briefing session. The practical elements are completed first in the yard and then at a worksite during the afternoon.

  • a Certificate is awarded at the end of the workshop

Please bring:

PPE Gear including high-vis vest, cut resistant gloves and safety boots.

Prerequisites:

No prerequisites are required.

This is a new webinar option which allows those who have previously qualified to renew their qualification.

All that is required is an email address and an internet connection.

Workshop material is presented via webinar and assessments are provided via electronic forms. This can be done from the comfort of your own home. Your trainer will be there online with you and will be able to answer your questions.

Webinars are run over two half days and classes are kept small.

The Traffic Controller course is a one day workshop that promotes safe work practices, standards and procedures at roadwork sites required by CoPTTM and qualifies the attendee to:

  • Carry out inspections on Level 1 roads
  • Act as a delegated TC for Level 1 worksites

The workshop also serves as a TC Refresher for those who have previously trained.

Assessments are sat at the workshop and a pass is required to achieve the TC warrant. Assessments are open book and a copy of the CoPTTM Handbook (Section J) is provided.

  • Knowledge of CoPTTM requirements and how to read a TMP
  • Completing inspection activities
  • Minding a worksite when STMS is absent
  • Completing worksite checks and paperwork
  • Briefing visitors
  • Managing manual traffic controller (MTC) activities
  • Dealing with common worksite situations
  • Dealing with the public and working with staff

Workshop includes:

  • TMO Handbook
  • Assessment material
  • Morning tea, Lunch and Afternoon tea
  • A verification card which can be used as proof of the warrant (until the Waka Kotahi card arrives)
  • Waka Kotahi registration & reporting Unit Standard 31959 (where the holder has the prerequsite)

Prerequisites:

The TTM Worker unit standard 31958 is the prerequisite to the sitting the TMO NP (or a previous TC warrant).

Additional on-job coaching from a TTM Mentor and a practical assessment by a TTM Assessor are required for those who require the TMO practising warrant.

This warrant is for a person who coaches staff on the practical aspects of a role and prepares them for assessment.

The TTM Mentor is required to verify tasks have been successfully performed to standard. Verifications are required for:

  • Unit Standard 31958 – TTM Worker
  • Unit Standard 31960 – Tasks 1 – 4
  • Unit Standard 31963 – Two Closures
  • STMS Mobile – Two Mobile closures

TTM Mentor workshop is one day and competed in two parts:

  • Part A: Knowledge about the TTM Mentor role and the mentoring process
  • Part B: Practice mentoring on key tasks in the yard (includes assessment)

Workshop includes:

  • TTM Mentor Handbook
  • Training material for TTM Worker including PowerPoint and Assessment (electronic)
  • Morning tea, Lunch and Afternoon tea
  • A verification card which can be used as proof of the warrant (until the Waka Kotahi card arrives)

The TTM Mentor warrant is completed as a one-off training session.  The warrant is current so long as the STMS Practising warrant is current. The TTM Mentor provides briefings and verifications that are required for the TTM Worker, TMO P and STMS P categories in the training and competency model.

Prerequisites:

The person applying to become a TTM Mentor must hold the STMS Practising warrant for the category of road they are mentoring on.

An application form will also need to be completed and acceptance from Waka Kotahi to allow the Mentor warrant to be issued. This will be sent out to be completed after booking has been made.

The workshop is a full day; providing the theory knowledge and on the road assessments for people who carry out inspection activities:

  • In category A and B road environments
  • On the shoulder of category C road

It is suitable for any person who completes on-site inspection activities but does not hold another type of practising warrant.  The warrant may be added as an additional one-off module for a STMS NP qualified person to enable them to carry out inspection activities.

There is not a Unit Standard associated with this Waka Kotahi warrant.

  • Take responsibility for Traffic Management
  • Conduct Safety Audits of Worksites

Duties are limited to Level 1 roads. Either the Traffic Controller or TC Inspector qualification must be obtained prior to attending the Level 1 STMS workshop. An expired STMS may also attend.

Attendees are required to refer to the latest edition of CoPTTM during the workshop. A USB stick with the latest copy of CoPTTM will be provided to those bringing laptops.

For attendees unable to bring a device a loan iPad can be provided.

The Universal site traffic management specialist (STMS-U) provides the base STMS knowledge for the STMS category A, B or C learning blocks and the STMS Mobile learning block.

This training is a steppingstone qualification before specialising on Categories of road or completing the STMS Mobile. It is a Non-Practising qualification only and does not qualify attendees to undertake TTM responsibilities.

The TMO NP is the prerequisite to the sitting the STMS-U. The prerequisite to obtaining Unit Standard 31961 is Unit Standard 31959. A current TC can sit the STMS-U however will not obtain the Unit Standard.

Non-Practising (NP)

The STMS Cat A & B NP warrants provide the base knowledge for working in category A & B environments. These learning blocks are for people who intend be working on category A or B road environments as:

  • a Traffic Operations Manager
  • a TTM Planner, TMP Approver, TTM Auditor, Traffic Management Coordinator or Corridor Manager

STMS NP assessments are sat progressively during the workshop.

The assessment for the STMS NP is Unit Standard 31962 and is completed as a one-and-a-half-day theory workshop.

The STMS Cat C NP warrant provide the base knowledge for working in category C environment. These are new learning blocks and for people who intend be working on category C environment as:

  • a Traffic Operations Manager

The STMS Cat C NP warrant is the prerequisite to the STMS Cat C practising warrant.

The workshop is theory based. The assessments are sat progressively during the workshop, this is registered as the STMS Cat C NP warrant with Waka Kotahi and can be registered as a unit standard.

The STMS Mobile NP warrant provides the base knowledge for undertaking mobile operations on either category A and B road environments or the shoulder of category C road environments.

There is not a Unit Standard associated with this Waka Kotahi warrant.

The workshop is theory based and includes tests which are sat progressively during the workshop. The warrant is registered as the STMS Mobile – NP warrant with Waka Kotahi.

Topics include:

  • complete risk assessment for the mobile activity
  • calculate layout distances for mobile operations
  • complete mobile operations

Workshop includes:

  • STMS Mobile Handbook
  • Assessment material
  • Morning tea, Lunch and Afternoon tea
  • A verification card which can be used as proof of the warrant (until the Waka Kotahi card arrives)
  • Waka Kotahi registration

This learning block is not appropriate if the person is required to be in charge of mobile operations to install, maintain or remove TTM at static worksites. The STMS category A, B, or C learning blocks cover this activity. Refer to STMS Cat AB NP and or STMS Cat C NP

The STMS-U is the prerequisite to the sitting the STMS Mobile – NP.

Alternatively STMS of any level current or expired can also complete STMS Mobile – NP.

    Cancellation Policy

    Practical Assessment and Verification Cancellation Policy

    Cancellations or postponements within 5 working days of a booked practical assessment or verification will incur a cancellation/administration fee of 25% of the original assessment/verification fee.

    Cancellations or postponements within 3 working days of a booked practical assessment or verification will incur a cancellation/administration fee of 50% of the original assessment/verification fee.

    No shows, cancellations or postponements on the day of a booked practical assessment or verification will incur a cancellation/administration fee of 100% of the original assessment/verification fee.

    Workshop Cancellation Policy

    Cancellations or postponements within 3 working days of a booked workshop will incur a cancellation/administration fee of 50% of the original workshop fee.

    No shows, cancellations or postponements on the day of a booked workshop will incur a cancellation/administration fee of 100% of the original workshop fee.
