STMS Cat A & B
Non Practising (NP)

The STMS Universal (STMS -U) theory learning must be achieved prior to sitting the STMS Cat A and B warrants.

The STMS Cat A & B warrants provide the base knowledge for working in category A & B environments. These are new learning blocks and for people who intend be working on category A & B environments as:

  • an onsite STMS
  • a Traffic Operations Manager
  • a TTM Planner, TMP Approver, TTM Auditor, Traffic Management Coordinator or Corridor Manager
  • a TTM Mentor or TTM Assessor

The STMS Cat A & B non-practising warrants are prerequisites to the STMS Cat A& B practising warrants.

The workshop is theory based. The assessments are sat progressively during the workshop, this is registered as the STMS Cat A & B – NP warrant with Waka Kotahi and can be registered as a unit standard.

Topics include:

  • deliver site safety briefings and inductions
  • calculate layout distances for category A road environments
  • set up, maintain and remove TTM for static operations (shoulder closures, two-way two-lane closures and multi-lane closures)
  • complete mobile operations and closures
  • set up, maintain and remove TTM for semi-static operations and closures
  • conduct special activities

Workshop fee includes:

  • Waka Kotahi registration fee
  • Assessment material
  • STMS Cat A+B Handbook
  • Loan iPad
  • morning tea, lunch and afternoon tea
  • a verification card which can be used as proof of the warrant (until the Waka Kotahi card arrives)
